HKS SUPER STAR Year 3 pupil is Railway Child

A year 3 pupil from Heathfield Knoll School in Wolverley has been cast in The Railway Children at The Rose Theatre in Kidderminster during the December run of the much-loved story by Edith Nesbit. The young thespian Luca was plucked from KRYPT (Kidderminster Rose Young People’s Theatre) Summer Camp earlier in the year and asked to play one of the children of Perks, the station porter. Now deep in rehearsals and preparing for opening night on Monday 2nd December, Luca can’t wait to tread the boards for the very first time. The production tells the story of the Waterbury children, Roberta (Bobbie), Peter and Phyllis who move to a cottage after their father is imprisoned. They embark on a series of adventures when they discover a railway, run by affable station master Perks, near their new home. This is a new and faithful adaptation by Mike Kenny of the much-loved tale by Edith Nesbit. It was first performed in 2008 at the National Railway Museum, York, using a real steam engine! However, Kenny says you don’t need a real train to perform this play… the most powerful prop is the imagination of the audience, the most effective tool the skill of the actors. Luca has said “I’m really happy to be in The Railway Children, I can’t wait to start and I’m loving the rehearsals and meeting the cast – they are really kind to me. It’s a big opportunity and I’m glad to be in the show.” The show is set to be a treat for families across generations to enjoy together.
