Life at Little Cedars Nursery
At Little Cedars Nursery, we provide a nurturing, inspiring, and engaging environment where every child can learn, explore, and thrive. Located in the heart of Kidderminster, our newly refurbushed purpose-built setting will open in September 2025, with a bespoke curriculum, and outdoor-focused approach that ensure a well-rounded early years experience that lays strong foundations for future learning.
A Bespoke Curriculum Designed for Every Child
At Little Cedars, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, with a focus on hands-on experiences, creativity, and independence. Our approach nurtures early literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills in an engaging way.
A personalised learning approach – Every child is unique, and our experienced educators adapt learning experiences to individual needs and interests.
Specialist-led enrichment – Weekly music lessons for our Preschool and Reception with Heathfield Knoll School’s Music Director help build rhythm, creativity, and self-expression.
Interactive storytelling & phonics – Literacy is introduced through stories, phonics-based learning, and imaginative play to develop early reading skills.
Mathematical thinking – We embed early numeracy skills through hands-on activities, games, and real-world applications like cooking and building
STEM & creative play – Children explore science, technology, engineering, and maths through fun, age-appropriate activities alongside arts and crafts.
Social development & well-being – We prioritise confidence-building, communication, and teamwork, ensuring smooth transitions to school.

Outdoor Learning & Exploration
At Little Cedars, we believe that the best learning happens beyond the classroom. Our expansive outdoor spaces provide children with the opportunity to explore nature, develop physical skills, and learn through hands-on experiences.
- Forest & nature exploration – Presschool and Reception have weekly sessions at the Earth Centre and Forest School allow children to engage in activities like bug hunting, den building, and outdoor storytelling.
- Physical development – Dedicated outdoor play areas, including climbing structures, balance beams, and sensory paths, support motor skill development and confidence in movement.
- Gardening & sustainability – Children take part in planting, growing, and harvesting, developing an early understanding of nature, responsibility, and healthy eating.

Phonics at Little Cedars
At Little Cedars, phonics learning begins right from the start of your child’s journey with us, not just in Preschool or Reception. We follow the Super Sonic Phonic Friends programme, a carefully designed scheme that supports children from birth in developing the strong sound processing skills essential for future reading and writing success.
In the early stages, we focus on building children’s auditory memory and listening skills, helping them to tune into sounds in the environment, instruments, and body percussion. These daily activities form the foundation for a lifelong enjoyment of literacy.
As children progress, they are introduced to rhythm and rhyme, alliteration, and the essential skills of oral blending and segmenting. This creates a smooth transition into more formal phonics instruction later on, ensuring that every child develops confidence and enthusiasm for early reading.

A Purpose-Built Learning EnvironmenT
Our nursery environment has been carefully designed to support children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive development at every stage.
- Age-specific rooms – dedicated spaces for each stage of development, ensuring a smooth transition between age groups
- Sensory and imaginative play areas – hands-on experiences, including messy play, music, and creative storytelling, foster critical thinking and self-expression
- Dedicated music and movement sessions – developing confidence, coordination, and a love of rhythm and sound
- Indoor and outdoor physical development – soft play areas, balance equipment, and sports hall sessions help children build strength and confidence
