Lunchtime: Our View vs Their View
Yesterday, we shared some photos of the different ways our pupils enjoy their break and lunchtimes at Heathfield Knoll. At the same time, we handed the camera over to a few of our Year 6 pupils to capture lunchtime through their eyes.
From exploring the school site to enjoying a game of table tennis, here’s what they got up to.
Although, we’re not sure a game of ‘winner stays on’ is entirely fair when one of the players is a national tennis champion!
So, whose photos tell the better story — ours or theirs? We’ll let you decide!
Where Would You Spend Your Break?
A game of football on the Astro? Relaxing in the Earth Centre area? Trying out our new Outdoor Gym Equipment? Catching up with friends on the benches outside The Haven? A game of table football? Or simply taking in the view from our platform?
With such a variety of spaces and activities, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to break and lunchtime at Heathfield Knoll.
So, which would you choose?
I’d choose every time. My daughter was there from 2006 and finished year 11. She did college at King Ed’s and now final year at university in Leeds. Go for it. 100%
Facing Your Fears!
Our Year 7 and 8 pupils have been taking on some serious challenges today as part of the HK YET Award, heading to the University of Worcester Lakeside Campus for a day designed to push them outside their comfort zones.
From high ropes to water-based activities, pupils have been testing themselves, supporting one another and discovering that things which can look daunting at first are often much more achievable once you take that first step.
There have been plenty of nerves, plenty of laughs and, most importantly, plenty of pupils challenging themselves to have a go.
Developing resilience, determination and teamwork — and learning that sometimes “I can’t do it...” simply needs the addition of one very important word: “yet”.

Mistakes & Resilience
Resilience is a key part of what we do at Heathfield Knoll. We want our pupils to understand that getting something wrong, making a mistake or even failing at something isn’t something to be avoided. It’s part of learning.
That’s why we deliberately create opportunities for pupils to ‘fail’ in a safe and structured environment, where they can have another go, learn from what went wrong and discover that they are often capable of much more than they first thought.
Because confidence doesn’t come from always getting things right. It comes from knowing that when things don’t go to plan, you can pick yourself up, learn from it and try again.
