Welcome to the Earth Centre

The Earth Centre will play host to a range of green based initiatives within the school, looking at recycling, water use, rainfall, surveying and much much more. Children will get the chance to not only look at popular topics and talk about them, but also embrace their inner creativity. The Earth Centre will join forces with a number of different subject areas and staff to give our children a broad experience, filled with interactivity, fun and knowledge. It will also be the home of our new Land based studies course for GCSE learners too, where they will learn about the various workings of the Land based sector whilst also maintaining our gardens. Learners will also be growing plants and vegetables for our market garden and pop up shop as well as looking to supply our school kitchen with some home grown produce. Mr Millington said: “The Earth Centre will provide a wonderful base for outdoor learning here at Heathfield Knoll. I’m really keen to immerse our students in all of popular topics of today, whilst also ensuring that all staff and subject areas have access to this facility. The real merit of a project like this is to bring people together, and the children will benefit hugely from this.” The Earth Centre will also play host to a community program Mr Millington is leading called the Local Gardener Initiative, by Kidderminster gardens. Mr Millington started a community project called the Seeds for School project, to give every local child a garden based experience. Mr Millington says; “I have been working on this project now for two years and have been in regular contact with Mr Collins, who has been a tremendous supporter of this project. Together we will continue to work on this project and not only deliver for the children of this school but children accross the local area”. Mr Millington started a group called Kidderminster gardens and off the back of that the Seeds for School project was born and so was the Local Gardener Initiative. The Earth Centre will be the base for the project and will have an area where people can donate packets of seeds, plants and tools that will be distributed to fellow schools too.
