Slam Poetry – What Will I Do? by Jack Year 7

What will I do?

I’ve lived for 12 years

What have I achieved?

What do people see when they look at me?

I’m no mind-reader, I don’t even know what I think!

I’m at the end of Year 7, just like you.

In just over 1 year I’ll choose what I want to do

For my GCSE’s, and what will I do?

I’m a blank sheet of canvas, the world, my painter,

Not knowing what it will paint next

And what if my passion is just a bust?

I feel like a shell a lifeless husk

How might I look back at my life, my time in year 7?

What will I do?

I just want to stop

Tick, tick, tick

Goes my watch, watch, watch

The world’s my oyster, but I just can’t crack the shell

What happens next?

Will I do what’s right?

I don’t know

Do I?

What will I do?

It’s a simple question

It really is

I could just use my brain

But how could I do it

It would be so easy, if only I knew it

What will I do?

Will the world ever freeze?

If just for a moment, just give me some peace

And I’m sure that sometimes, that’s what we all think

We need some time to thing, but the world won’t even let us

It feels like everything is out to get us

And when everything tries to break us,

It is our responsibility to try to make us

So what will we do?

I’ll tell you what.

We will band together

We will make year 8 the greatest year ever

There will be nothing that can tear us all apart,

We will stay together

From the ring, ring, ring of the breaktime bell

To the times when we are feeling unwell

Our bonds won’t break, they will only swell

Because we are all a class

Just you guys, and me.
