Slam Poetry – Escaping by Willow Year 7

I’d love to escape away to the trees,

with the stars shining down upon me

While the pain the world has brought me leaves,

And the people I love left behind me

Curled up in a forest, curled up in the rain,

Curled up in a ball, away from the pain.

A field of bluebells, a meadow of daisies,

I’d spend my days making gifts for the fairies

I could run away and never come back

I could run away with nought but a backpack

The moon would keep me company,

The sun would make me happy

I’d live my life in perfect harmony

I can escape away to the trees

The plan i have is forming

I’d run away to the middle of the trees

And stay from night till morning

The sun prickling down through the trees

The rain trickling down through the leaves

I love it all, I love it all, I love it all.

But it’s still there, in my ear, in my heart

And it stops me like a red brick wall

But I shrug it off and bury it back down,

Deep inside so it can’t be found

I pretend I’m alright and hatch my plot

Leaves, trees and other things

Leaves, trees and beautiful things

But the feature of nature I find most alluring,

Is when the wind whistles through the trees like it’s calling

My name over and over and over

Until I sink down to a tree and block out the world

But on and on it calls, in my ear, in my heart.

And it stops me like a red brick wall.

And on and on I must wade

Wade through the pain

I used to want to escape to the trees

And still I really do

But I can’t run away from my problems anymore

To face them, it starts with me and you.
