A school in Wolverley, Wyre Forest is going above and beyond to help not only its pupils but staff and parents as well.
Mrs Teresa Stooksbury, Head of Well-being at Heathfield Knoll School and First Steps Day Nursery is always updating and renewing her qualifications but most recently she has taken the next step and gained a Counselling qualification.
At Heathfield Knoll School, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is important for all staff. It enables them to keep up to date with new trends and developments in their field. All staff, not just those that teach are able to improve and expand their knowledge through the schools CPD structure.
Mrs Stooksbury recently has undertaken a 3-day intensive First Aid at Work course with St Johns Ambulance, covering basic first aid to those more life-threatening procedures.
In 2018 the NHS reported that 1 in 8 children in England has a mental health disorder.
“We support pupils who want to take responsibility for creating their own future and getting the right help at any stage is better late than never at all. I have an open-door policy for all pupils, parents and staff to come and have a chat and cuppa.” Teresa Stooksbury
Mrs Stooksbury has also updated her First Aid in Mental Health qualification with MIND allowing her to give advice and support to anyone feeling depressed, struggling with their sexuality, self-harming, having suicidal thoughts or suffering from eating disorders.
The latest qualification the Head of Well-being has obtained has taken 6 months to complete. Teresa Stooksbury can now add a Counselling qualification to her bow which will allow her to better counsel staff, parents and pupils in areas where they may be struggling e.g. Bereavement, depression, divorce, sexuality, friendship issues, and abuse.
