What is the Good Schools Guide?

The Good Schools Guide is the number one website which helps parents find the right school for their child. It works as an online resource for parents to view the various schools listed, as well as the individual qualities of the school. Finding the right school for your child is a daunting task. Having a resource such as the Good Schools Guide available for parents to help filter their choices is hugely beneficial. Parents can take comfort in knowing that the schools listed on The Good Schools Guide are there on merit alone. It is not possible for schools to buy their way onto the site, or create a listing themselves. The Good Schools Guide is impartial and as such remains an honest and reliable source for parents.

What’s written about the school on the Good Schools Guide?

There are many features that are written on the Good Schools guide. They detail the information required to enter the school “Entry from reception upwards, including mid-year. Admission by interview with head and two taster days – ‘because the school fit is important for us and the family.’ “ Not only do they list how to get into the school, they also detail the education that is received; “As part of their respective form times, year 9s, 10s and 11s were discussing the Russian invasion of Ukraine – what was Russia’s motivation? How could it affect us? etc. Insights from students articulate and well considered. Ditto for year 4s who pondered concepts such as kindness, respect, friendship and other themes that the teacher pulled out of a jar.” Having the information surrounding the education can really help parents prepare for any open days and visits they may have booked in. ‘You name it, they seem to have it,’ lauded a parent, though nobody would argue sport reaches the elite end at this school. Boys do football, cricket, rugby and athletics; girls play netball, hockey, rounders and athletics. ‘My daughter isn’t sporty but is involved in everything,’ said one mother – ‘it’s because they make them feel good about themselves.”  There are insights from parents, which helps give prospective parents a taste of what their children can expect as well as real life experiences. All of this ties into a detailed and fully comprehensive guide to the school. Here at Heathfield Knoll we are so proud of the school and community we are building. Having the opportunity for parents to find us using the online platform is truly exciting. We have always valued the honest and insightful guides that can be found on the Good Schools Guide, and to be included on it ourselves is fantastic. It shows our teachers that their hard work and dedication is noticed, not just by the parents and peers at Heathfield Knoll but also others outside the school.
