Forest School at HKS

Forest School at HKS is a central part of learning, taking advantage of 40 acres of field and woodland.  Forest School starts at First Steps Day Nursery with children being taken to play over in our very own forest. This continues into Preschool where Mr Jaunzems, Forest School Level 3 leader, takes pupils each week to explore the natural world around them. As pupils progress from Preschool up to Year 6, they are given more freedom and responsibility in Forest School from using tools to cooking marshmallows and lighting fires. Pupils enjoy timetabled lessons exploring the Forest School ethos, which is focused on developing self-esteem, confidence, independence and responsibility for all ages and abilities.  This happens by allowing pupils to have hands-on outdoor experience in a safe environment. Forest School is not to replace classroom learning but helps to enhance, expand and add to it.
