Supporting Charity at HKS - 06/02/2019

< Back to News

Charity is a word close to many of us, and there are many worthy causes to help. Heathfield Knoll School and First Steps Day Nursery regularly support charities that are close to our heart and that of the extended school family. In the past, we have helped to raise money for a plethora of charities, including recent donations to Leukaemia UK, Nightstop and Children in Need.

This February, we will be holding a non-uniform day to help raise funds for not one, but three worthy causes. Firstly, Children with Cancer UK is a charity close to the school as in 2011/12 Daisy, one of our pupils was unfortunately taken ill with a tumour on her Pancreas (Pancreatoblastoma). To help raise money, her mum Sarah will be running the London Marathon in April and a percentage of the donations from the non-uniform day will go towards her target.

Joe and Charlie, in Year 10, along with their teammates at Stourbridge Rugby Club are raising money for Birmingham Children's Hospital and Cancer Research. A friend from the team sadly passed away in April 2018 after suffering from a disease which he had a 1 in a million chance of catching.  As part of their broader fundraising efforts, the boys have had their heads shaved. So far the team have more than doubled their original target of £1,000, and the rest of the donations will go towards their efforts.
