Did you know HKS has two defibrillators on site? One of which Matron along with her family raised money to buy. All teaching staff have also been educated on basic CPR and how to use the defibrillators.
Matron was shortlisted for a prestigious award given by Hand on Heart Charity for her dedication to making HKS a heart safe environment.
“A Heart Safe environment is one where life-saving equipment, a defibrillator, and training are provided for staff or customers so that, should a sudden cardiac arrest occur, people are fully prepared to perform resuscitation and life support immediately. “ Hand on Heart Charity (No: 1145316)
Hand on Heart are a charitable organization that is dedicated to keeping children safe and protecting their hearts by making schools and community groups heart safe. 12 young people lose their lives every single week due to sudden cardiac arrest so the importance of knowledge and correct training are key within any school.
Matron uses her qualifications to teach pupils from Year 7 upwards CPR and basic First Aid.
“As a Nurse I am passionate about teaching these skills to the children, instilling in them the fact that saving someone’s life might be one of the most important lessons they ever learn as it could well be a friend or family member who needs their help.” Mrs. Wallace-Matron
