Dear Parents,
We are so missing all of our wonderful families. In these most challenging of times, it is difficult to replicate the sense of community that we so readily feel when spending any time at Heathfield Knoll School. Nevertheless, we are doing our utmost to stay connected with you digitally – emails, messages, social media posts, video shares and phone calls are, however, no substitute for conversations in person. Please engage with any of my staff, at whatever level you feel is appropriate, to share thoughts, concerns or feedback on the online lessons. Based on feedback I am reading, the latter continue to be well received including the tweaks to the timetable for this term. We regularly share best practice in our virtual staff meetings and discuss tools to support the online learning; there has to be an iterative process of review, evaluation and actions as required.
Some of our pupils are finding the lockdown process challenging. If your son / daughter would benefit from further support, then please make contact with school using the wellbeing@hkschool.org.uk. Several children are benefitting from regular contact with our Head of Wellbeing.
There is a heightened awareness of the financial circumstances of all our parents. Whilst perhaps inappropriate to make reference to tuition fees, KSI and I express gratitude to parents for paying for this term in a timely manner. The School has utilised all its cash reserves and worked hard to identify cost savings to offset the substantial loss of revenue during this term. This was the right thing to do; however, our business plan is only viable as a result of the collective contributions of all our parents. There remains a commitment to continue with the £1 million investment on the site; preparatory work is well under way for the new technology block (planning should be received shortly). KSI and I would like to thank you for your understanding and working with the school at this difficult time. Your support is most appreciated.
Should there be specific concerns that you wish to share directly with me, then please email head@hkschool.org.uk. I am here to help.
I will write to you (shortly) to share any news of a return date(s) to school. I wish you all the best and a safe time at home.
Kind regards,
Lawrence Collins
Headmaster
